Who we
are
Who we are
The Upper Deeside Access Trust (UDAT) is a non-profit making environmental
charity established in Upper Deeside and was incorporated as a company
limited by guarantee on 1st June 1998. Our work is funded by Aberdeenshire
Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Enterprise Grampian,
The Cairngorms Partnership and Balmoral Estate with shared objectives
in protecting the natural heritage, providing for public access and
sustainable economic development.
Operational area
Our operational area covers some 110,000 ha of Upper Deeside ranging
from Morven to Cairn Toul, the Cairnwell and Lochnagar. For a detailed
map of the area click here. Aims
Our twin aims are to help assist public access and enjoyment to
the area and to promote its sensitive use, by developing and undertaking
a strategy for managing access within Upper Deeside, which balances
recreational use with the natural heritage, land management and
other interests. Funding
Our work is funded by the member partners and through EU programme
schemes. We also raise funds from private sector sponsorship, the
national lottery and other sources, and generate income where appropriate
through managing visitor facilities, leaflet sales and contracting
out our services. Structure
UDAT's management structure includes a Board of Directors who represent
the funding partners and a Management Group on which Scottish Enterprise
Grampian is also represented. The Project Manager is responsible
for managing the company and its resources, and is assisted by an
Access Officer and a Trust Administrator to deliver its programme
of work. As a fundamental part of its role, the Trust works closely with
land managers, users, the local community and others in the area
to help develop and implement projects, and has established an Affiliate
Membership to strengthen its links with the wider public. Membership and contacts
