Glen Ey
Part of Mar Estate, Glen Ey penetrates into the heart of the Cairnwell
hills, a remote area of rolling heather moors and the ruins of
many deserted settlements. It also features the 'Colonel's Bed',
a hidden rock ledge by the river where the infamous Black Colonel
of Inverey hid from Government troops in 1689. (Access to the Colonel's
Bed is not advised due to a recent rock fall in the river gorge)
Location
4½ miles, 7 km (6mins) west of Braemar, along an unclassified
road. Facilities
- Small informal car park at Inverey.
- Popular access point to some of the higher hills and Munros
at the head of Glen Ey.
- Attractive low-level walking and cycling along the glen on good
land rover tracks.
